Porsche 924 Carrera GTS Club Sport – Group B History
The Porsche 924 began as a joint project between Volkswagen and Audi but quickly evolved into a serious motorsport contender. The 924 Carrera GT was developed for Group 4 racing, and with 406 examples built for homologation, it delivered 210 horsepower and cost as much as a Ferrari 308 GTB. The next step was the 924 Carrera GTS, featuring 245 horsepower, reduced weight, 911 Turbo brakes, and 935 racing seats. Only 50 were examples produced. At the top of the hierarchy stood the 924 Carrera GTS Club Sport – the most extreme version – just 15 hand-built cars from Weissach, equipped with 270 horsepower, a curb weight of only 1,060 kg, and a factory price of 124,000 DM – more than twice that of a 911 SC.
This particular example, chassis 710021, was built in 1981 by Porsche customer sports service under the supervision of Gerd Schmeid, and delivered new to Carlos Noce in Italy, fitted from the factory with an aluminum roller cage. The car was active in Italian Group B rallying in 1982–83, driven by Luigi Mazzoni with co-driver Adriano Castagnara. Notable results include 11th overall / 1st in class at the Rally Appennino Reggiano, and 10th overall at the Rally Città di Modena. After its competition, the car was brief used on the road before being stored in Italy, and later imported to Norway in 2000. It saw little use before being placed in long-term storage for over 20 years. In 2022, it was brought back to life and carefully recommissioned, holding its historic Rally Modena livery. The car comes with extensive documentation, including FIA papers, a Porsche Classic Technical Certificate, rally result sheets, and its original VHF rally radio equipment. With only 15 Club Sport units produced and very few used in Group B competition, this is an exceptional rare and historically important Porsche – ideal for serious collectors or for participation in historic motorsport events.
The car is located in Norway and is registered for road use. Price is net export, and we can arrange worldwide transport.
