IN THE CHAIR: MR GERMANY With this Porsche 928 S you don't have to read in the documents for long to understand that his first owner had a pretty clear idea of what he expected from his new Porsche. Zinc Metallic outside, dark blue leather inside - and below a remarkably consistent technical order. The manual 5-speed sports gear was ordered instead of the automatic system that was then close. For this purpose, a 40% shear differential, sports suspension and a track widening on the rear axle. ABS also belonged to the equipment. This is a very attractive combination for a 928 S of 1984. Because the 928 had not been thought of by Porsche as a capped racing car. It should be the great, fast Gran Turismo - comfortable, sovereign and technically complex enough to handle very high speeds with a certain degree of self-evidentness. This one still got quite exactly the ingredients that made the big Gran Turismo a much more dedicated rider pinch. Five gears, locking differential and sports suspension. One could say that someone had already understood that a 928 S does not necessarily have to go straight ahead. And this unusual work configuration is what makes this car particularly interesting today. Not because any subsequent modification would have made him ́ ́sports ́ at some point, but because Porsche itself has built and delivered him exactly like that. This is an important difference. More importantly, however, what happened after that car. The 928S was originally delivered to Italy. There he spent the first decades of his life under conditions that could hardly have been better designed for an automobile. Above all, he did not have to get to know something that can significantly increase a classic Porsche in our latitudes over the years: winter. Since its first registration, this 928 S has not been exposed to any winter operation. More than 42 years without salt and without winter roll split leave their traces - or more precisely: they prevent a whole series of traces that you normally have to look for in such a car at some point. In 2015 the car arrived in Germany. The buyer was the board of a Porsche Club, which imported it from Italy and subsequently subjected it to a technical revision at the Porsche Zentrum Karlsruhe, which had to fill this concept with content. There was no attempt to make a more than 30 years old 928 ready for as little money as possible. The engine was completely revised. The 5-speed manual transmission was completely revised. The suspension, the braking system and the entire transaxle drivetrain were overhauled from scratch. Further work and renewals followed, among other things, on air conditioning, switching mimic and on chassis voting. The vehicle was then maintained and further refined under the best possible conditions. The original invoices of the Porsche Zentrum Karlsruhe and Krämer in Vogt, which are available for this purpose, are summed to around 70,000 euros. This is a considerable sum. Above all, however, it is quite clear about the approach. With such an amount you could have made a lot of ́also different ́ ́. Fix something, replace something, leave something else first. The car would probably have worked again for much less money. But that was obviously not the point here. It was about the 928 technically to such an extent that it was not constantly recalled that more than four year-olds have passed. And this is the point where the invoices get their actual value. You can invest €70,000 in an old Porsche and then have an impressive bill. Or you can invest 70.000 euros and then own a car that drives accordingly. With this 928 S, the latter is pleasingly the case. Since the completion of the extensive work, only about 9,000 kilometres have been covered. And whoever drives this Porsche understands quite quickly why the effort has been made. The engine works powerfully and cultivated. The gearshift can be used as expected by a mechanical healthy Porsche. The entire transaxle drive
