Porsche 944 Turbo (951) | Model year 1987 | Zermatt Silver Metallic
For sale is a Porsche 944 Turbo from the model year 1987 – for many enthusiasts the most mature and desirable model of the Porsche Transaxle series.
The vehicle was originally delivered to California and was owned by its first owner for many years. After his death, the car was handed over by the family to a charity auction. Later the vehicle reached Poland. It has been in my possession since 2022.
This 944 Turbo presents itself in the rare and elegant original colour Zermatt Silver Metallic – a warm silver tone, named after the famous Swiss mountain resort Zermatt. Depending on the incidence of light, the paint has a different effect and underlines the timeless routing of one of the most characteristic Porsche models in the 1980s.
The Porsche 944 Turbo, internally referred to as type 951, was far more than just a charged version of the normal 944. Porsche developed numerous components new and created a sports car that could compete with significantly more expensive vehicles of its time.
Compared to standard 944, the turbo received, among other things, an enhanced engine, an elaborate turbocharger system, more efficient cooling, larger brake systems with technology from Porsche 911, a revised chassis and improved aerodynamics. Thanks to the Transaxle concept with front motor and rear gear, the car has an almost perfect weight distribution and a still impressive driving behavior.
The attractive combination of equipment of this vehicle is particularly noteworthy. It is a facelift model with manual gear, removable and electrically liftable Targa roof, bright leather equipment and driver and passenger airbag. Such a combination is rarely found on the market today and is very popular with collectors of Transaxle-Porsche.
Facilities include:
– Air conditioning – electric window lifters – electrically adjustable exterior mirrors – Central locking (currently without function) – original blue-point radio – original 16-inch Teledial rims – Luggage compartment cover – complete original board tool kit – Reserve wheel including car lifter – original protective cover for the removable roof part – original front protection hood (“Bra”) – second set of season tyres
The car still has its American side marker lights, which, especially in the dark, provide a special atmosphere and recall its Californian origin. For better everyday suitability, the front headlights were upgraded to European H4 design.
In recent years, the vehicle has always been kept in a garage and regularly presented at events for classic and historical cars. The attention of Porsche enthusiasts and lovers of classic sports cars from the 1980s was always great.
A special detail of this vehicle is the autograph of Sobiesław Zasada on the driver sunblind. As one of the most important Polish rally drivers and long-term Porsche ambassadors, his signature is an interesting and unique collector detail.
Today the 944 Turbo is considered one of the most underestimated classics of the Porsche brand. It combines performance, suitability for everyday life and an unprecedented analog driving experience in a way that can hardly be found in modern vehicles.
A Porsche for connoisseurs, collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate one of the most fascinating models of the Porsche history.
