1994 Renault Twingo Phase I /FrameOff Restauriert /Benchmark!

He was certainly not a rarity at his active sales time, the Twingo Phase I - with all modifications and changes he finally came to more than 2.6 million units from 1993 to 2007. This is also the reason why almost everyone can share a story or anecdote in Germany today.

And so, like other seemingly banal million-sellers like VW beetles and Citroen 2CV: some - sometimes enlightened - remembered and the longing for real, honest and simple awakened at the latest by the 30th. Birthday of the Twingo not only a lot of sympathy, but suddenly also great respect. In the centre of interest the pure original form with the legendary 1,2-liter control chain motor from the R5, in strong uni colors and all the more colorful seating patterns, with the turquoise green controllers and switches and the central digital-tacho - so he had to look to slowly secure the first places on Oldtimer fairs or even auction stages. And even quite philosophically, there was a discussion about groundbreaking design and ingenious spatial concept, and also about the time-historical context of the careless-coloured 90s - and no one was surprised that top specimens were bought up by American collectors at clearly 5-digit prices...

And then one wonders - but for other reasons: we stand in front of an early specimen in coveted Indian yellow, recognize an obviously almost untouched state for absolutely all angles - was there really a new car? No - a certainly very positively crazy collector has restored this Twingo simply frame-off, with the same dedication and acribia and above all the same expertise that would be used to approach this project in a classic Porsche 911. Whereever original parts had to be replaced, he took care of NOS (New Old Stock) parts across Europe, as stored original new parts. Every detail was not as good as necessary, but as good as possible - after all he was not only a designated Renault specialist, but wanted to finish the car personally without looking at costs or a resale value.

Since owners and vehicles were home in Portugal, this Twingo was also temporarily exhibited in the Museo de Caramulo, which, in addition to works by Picasso, Dali and Chagall, also exhibits top-class automobiles. But even after its restoration, the twingo should not be a pure "stehzeug" so its owner visited the celebrations of the 30th century. Twingo's birthday - and here his creator Patrick Le Quement, the legendary former chief designer of Renault, set up the little French with his signature from the sun visor!

At the beginning of 2025, a new project woke up the ambition of his owner, and in search of the "right" new owner, he encountered an old-timer dealer from Hamburg, who had already paid attention to the western neighboring country with his passion for the Twingo. He then made a service in September 2025 and, in the best tradition of the previous owner, installed the ultra-rare two-colored steering wheel from the original accessories (the standard-volume rests in the trunk in the sales carton!).

After long rings, we were allowed to take over the car which he himself admitted and drove in Germany, and then offer it for sale. The specified KM stand naturally corresponds to the GESAMT power of the vehicle before and after the revision - since rebuilding it has been driven about 20tkm!

With high security, this twingo should be the best specimen to purchase. The optical and technical quality is outstanding, the driving impression is new-car-like, and it is personally signed by its designer. With us this Twingo Phase I now costs a fraction of a restoration!
